Sports massage / manual therapy
Massage, osteopathy and shiatsu are all examples of manual therapy, whereby a trained therapist makes use of their hands to manipulate tissues and release tension in the body while the client lies still, relaxing into their breath and embracing the mind body unity.

During treatment, the metabolism slows down (marked by a decrease in breathing and heart rates) and the parasympthetic (rest & digest) nervous system becomes dominant over the adrenaline fuelled ‘fight or flight’ state, in which modern living so frequently and indiscriminately keeps us captive.

The shift in energy during a treatment helps to reduce the incidence of all chronic illnesses in which stress plays its part and the benefits are retained in both the body and the mind long after treatment has run its course.

Pilates / strength and stability
Physical strength, a strong mind and strength of character are all desirable traits, for good reason. Resilience over adversity enables a more pleasurable and fruitful existence. Physical decay associated with increasing age is combated by engaging in resistance exercise programs which keep the musculoskeletal system robust.

It is important that any exercise programme remains balanced. The types of exercise in which we engage must be broad, meaning that we must try to not do the same thing consecutively. Mixing things up helps to keep the body guessing so that tissues don’t become overworked and we don’t get bored!!
